Less Work, More Play

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

“There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.”

— Vicki Baum

What is the opposite of work? If you answered rest, you are incorrect. The actual opposite of work, is PLAY. Most people tend to believe that the word “play” only applies to children, which is a huge misconception. If anything, adults are the individuals who actually stand to gain the most from it. Far too often, we as adults find ourselves in a seemingly never ending cycle of mundaneness. Wake, work, sleep, repeat. Where is the fun in that? Where is the excitement? I think it’s about time to break the cycle, and I hope you do, too.

It can be difficult to find activities to break up your day. And deciding which of those activities will provide you with the joy you so desperately crave? Even harder. So please, allow me to help. What is the number one thing people instinctively do when they're feeling happy? That’s right, they DANCE!! I mean come on, they don’t call it doing the "happy dance” for nothing. Dancing is a wonderful way to just put all of your thoughts and concerns on silent for a while, and simply focus on you. Aside from being a great workout, it’s just flat out FUN. But hey, don’t just take my word for it, come on out to Jordan Mac Studios and experience it for yourself.

Even though what we offer is labeled as an “adult" dance class, we assure you that nothing else could possibly make you feel more like a kid again. It is constantly stressed to our youth the importance and value of getting involved in extracurricular activities, and for good reason. The benefits extend far and wide, and can have a multitude of positive effects on the mind, body, and soul. As adults, it is critical to not lose sight of those same values, but rather to practice what we preach. Taking a dance class isn’t just a way to blow off steam from that agonizing conference call you suffered through earlier, it is also a place to go and make new friends who share the same passion as you. So come one, come all, and come and have yourself a ball.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes, with the hope that it will speak to you with the same veracity as it did to me:

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw

- Joey Savoie
