Commitment is Key

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

"Things never happen on accident. They happen because you have a vision, you have a commitment, you have a dream"

– Oscar de la Renta

We’ve all been there before - agreeing to do something multiple days or weeks in advance, just to flake out at the last minute after deciding we just don’t “feel like it” anymore. Whether we are too tired, too lazy, or just too hesitant to welcome something new into our lives, the list of excuses goes on and on. It’s easy to push things back or to just take the “I’ll do it next time” approach. Well ladies and gentlemen, I’m no doctor, but please allow me to prescribe you a dose of reality - the most rewarding things in life don’t come easy. The harder it is to muster up the courage or energy to do something, the more satisfying the end result will be. So the next time you commit to something, do yourself a favor and follow through.

We often forget that our decisions affect more than just ourselves. Whether you are on a sports team, join a book club, or enroll in a weekly dance class, the decision to show up every week or not has a massive impact on those who are involved in that activity with you. If you constantly rely on others to hold you accountable, you are destined to disappoint. Hold yourself accountable. Hold yourself to a higher standard. Be the galvanizing force that pulls people together to accomplish a common goal. While it is understood that giving your word isn’t exactly a legally binding contract, it still holds a lot of weight to those you give it to. So lift yourself up, thereby ensuring that you don’t let others down.

Choosing which activities to involve yourself in can be another tricky decision to maneuver. If you choose to go all in on something, the goal should be to yield positive results that leave you feeling proud and fulfilled. You want to be able to lay your head down at night and say with conviction, “That’s right, I did that”. Take a stand for the quality of your life by participating in things that not only make you feel good, but are also good for you. Inject your energy into something that your mind and body will thank you for later. There are plenty of ways to have fun while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Commitment is key, so get out there and find something you love and never look back.
