4 Reasons You Should be Dancing in 2021

Looking to shake things up in 2020? Need to exercise, but hate going to the gym? Whether it’s for leisure, sports, or income, dancing has a variety of benefits in one’s personal, social, and professional life. So why exactly should you pick up dancing next year?

Here’s Four Reasons You Should be Dancing in 2020:

1. Health Benefits:

I don’t need a doctor to tell you that a lifestyle that promotes regular exercise can lead to long lasting health benefits. So what benefits does dancing have on your physical health? Well, for starters, dancing uses a variety of different movements that your body needs to exercise everyday to stay in shape. Things like lunging, jumping, twisting, and ducking, are just a few moves that will help your muscles breath and grow. These movements, if performed correctly, can make you stronger and more agile over time.

Dancing has also been linked to several psychological health benefits such as stress reduction and building higher confidence and self esteem. Different styles of dance require different mental processes as well, strengthening the organizational, creative, and reactive parts of your brain.

And who doesn’t want to be less stressed and more physically fit?

2. Learn About Cultures:

As much as dance is about movement and motion, it’s also about history too. When you learn a new dance style, you’re learning about the people who created it, the place where it was created, and why it exists in the first place. Dancing is a great way to expose yourself to other parts of the world without leaving the comfort of your neighborhood, or opening up one of those big history textbooks, (yuck).

3. Social Atmosphere:

Whether you’re dancing solo, or in a group, more often than not, there’s going to be some level of collaboration you have with others on the dance floor. This can be an excellent opportunity for you to strengthen teamwork skills that you can then insert into your daily personal and professional lives. Skills like patience, leadership, communication, and time management are all things that dancers learn over time.

And, let’s face it, things are just more fun in a group!

4. Dancing at Events:

We’ve all been there: Your friend wants you to get up out of your seat, and dance at their wedding. But, you don’t know how to dance, or rather, you don’t feel comfortable dancing in front of other people. Whatever the reason is, dancing is going to be a part of your life for a long time, so get to know it! Go out and take a dance class, dance with friends, or learn the basics on your own. Either way, the next time you’re asked to get out on the dance floor, say yes!
